You are approaching the turn-off to Matua Valley vineyard, where the Spence brothers first set up a small, family-run winery in 1973 and went on to pioneer New Zealand’s first Sauvignon Blanc. Today, the vineyard produces a wide range of distinctive wines, including Matua Valley’s famous Ararimu Chardonnay. Wine tastings at the cellar door are relaxed, yet informed and visitors are welcome to picnic between the vines.
