You are now approaching Silverdale, a town 30 km north of Auckland. The settlement was originally called “Wade” which is English for “Weiti” which refers to the nearby Weiti River. This river is rich in Mangroves trees and flows into the scenic Hauraki Gulf. The town was renamed Silverdale in the early 1900’s because of the large amount of poplar trees in the area at the time. Another reason for the name change was because the town is actually situated in a “dale” or valley.
