Coming up on your left / right is the turnoff to Mount Eden, the highest natural point in Auckland. The summit towers over the city at 196 meters high and boasts spectacular views of the city and the 50 meter deep volcanic crater. The Maori name for the volcano is Maungawhau and it means ‘mountain of the whau’. The name refers to a plant that grows in the area.
