You are approaching a turnoff onto an unsealed road that will take you to Port Albert and the Kaipara Harbour. The Kaipara Harbour is one of the largest in the world, encompassing over 3200 kilometres of shoreline. Although it is officially called a harbour, it is rarely used for shipping because of the treacherous tides. There are also no large settlements close to its shores. Fishing is apopular activity here but please aware of the fact that this is an important site for migratory wading birds.
