Coming up is the Rodney District. This is the northern most area in the Auckland Region. Rodney stretches from The Hibiscus Holiday Coast to Muriwai and its black sanded beaches. A number of regional parks can be found in this district including the Shakespeare Regional Park and the Goat Island Marine Reserve. Cape Rodney was the first marine reserve officially opened in New Zealand. The towns in Rodney are well known holiday resorts that are easily accessible via the local motorway. Highlights of the area are hot pools and the historic Mansion House Museum which was once the home of Sir George Gray, the former governor of New Zealand.
