Coming up on the left/right is the turnoff to the Wenderholm Regional Park. This was the first regional park in New Zealand and is still known as the most impressive. The park is cradled by the Puhoi and Wairewa rivers and consists of sandy beaches and untouched forests. There’s a large population of native birds in the park and a variety of hiking and walking trails. Visitors can walk up to Couldry House and learn more about the early history of this part of New Zealand. The house has been around since the 1800’s and is now a museum. Follow the signs from the parking lot to this historic landmark.
