Coming up is the Aigantighe Art Gallery, the third largest public art museum on the south island. The collection of art is diverse, with works dating back to the 16th century. Many talented New Zealand artists are featured including Goldie, McCahon and Hodgkins. The collection is housed in an Edwardian house built in 1908 by Scottish immigrants. Aigantighe means ‘at home’ in Scottish Gaelic and is pronounced ‘egg and tie’. The gallery doesn’t only feature indoor artworks but also has an international sculpture garden.
