Coming up ahead is the Ashburton Museum and Art Gallery. The museum has a large collection of historical records and photographs which relate to the entire Ashburton district. The Maori history display is extensive with hundreds of artifacts from the Wakanui site excavations done in the 1970s. The museum even has a model circus made up of hundreds of pieces and it was built by a local. Admission is free and opening hours are Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm and then Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4pm.
