Coming up is The Berry Barn renowned for growing and selling the freshest and tastiest strawberries and raspberries in Southern Canterbury. Tastings are on offer to all passersby and what’s more, if the day is hot, you’re in luck for The Berry Barn makes its very own fresh and ultra-delicious berry icecream. Strawberries are big business in Waimate, so much so that an annual fair is held in their honour. Dubbed the ‘Waimate Strawberry Fare’, it’s held on the second Saturday in December, and attracts crowds of around 14,000, who flock here for a day of free family entertainment.
