Coming up is New Regent Street. At its completion in the 1930’s this street was called ‘The most beautiful street in New Zealand.’ It was built during the Depression and is one of very few large-scale projects built in South Island at the time. The restored electric tram travels down the length of this historic street and vehicle traffic is not permissible. Spanish Mission style buildings line both sides of New Regent Street and the restaurants and boutiques all contribute to the streets’ charm.
