Coming up is the turn-off to Opihi Vineyard and the historic Opihi Vineyard Café, housed inside Clifton Cottage, built from local limestone in 1882 by Edward Dark, the first run-holder of Glentanner Station near Aoraki, Mount Cook. Its 18-inch-thick walls and original cellar make it the perfect place to sample and purchase Opihi’s award-winning wines including its Pinot Noir, aged in French oak, and offering ripe berry-fruit aromas to the nose. Families are welcomed here and with huge lawns offering cricket, volleyball, badminton, croquet, and petanque, there’s plenty of room for everyone to stretch their legs.
