You are approaching Otira, a small township 7 km’s north of Arthur’s Pass. Otira was originally a stop on the Cobb and Co stagecoach from Canterbury to the West Coast. Found on the western approach to the pass, the township is made up mostly of old railway housing, much of which was built in Hamilton and shipped south and re-constructed on site.
