You are now approaching the Phar Lap Monument and the actual property where this famous horse was born. Phar Lap was born on the 4th of October 1926 and he died in the US on the 5th of April 1932. The horse took part in 51 races and of these he had 31 wins and 5 places. Phar Lap earned a total of 66 738 pounds during his very successful career as a race horse and his story is on display in a museum in Melbourne, Australia. This horse has managed to become a national icon for both New Zealand and Australia and the life size bronze memorial remembers one of the greatest racehorses in local history.
