Coming up is the Savoy Tearooms, a Kiwi lunch stop of old, with a bakery out front and a hallway leading through to the tearooms where a delicious range of freshly baked cakes, rolls, sandwiches, and pies are made, amongst them Waimate’s famous 100 percent wallaby steak pie! It’s a scrumptious mix of the steak itself, onion, plum sauce, and salt and pepper. Also popular with the locals are homemade wild pork and apple pie, and rabbit with prunes marinated in Speights.
