Coming up is the Sign of the Kiwi. This is one of four road houses that were opened in 1917 because of a vision by conservationist Harry Ell to build a series of reserves along Port Hills to Banks Peninsula. In the past, the roadhouses offer shelter and refreshment for those who needed it. It is no longer permissible to stay over at the road houses. Instead the Sign of the Kiwi is now a tearoom and a great starting point for the Port Hills walking routes.
