You have now reached the Sign of the Takahe. The building was initially a roadhouse for travelers crossing the Cashmere Hills. It was completed in 1949, after nearly 40 years of construction. Today the building is a restaurant and is open in the afternoons for Devonshire Teas. There is also a viewing area at the back of the garden overlooking the Canterbury Plains and the city of Christchurch. The Sign of the Kiwi, another roadhouse, is a 40 minute walk through the hills from the Sign of Takahe.
