Coming up is the Timeball Station. During the time that the timeball was in use, the 100 kilogram ball would be dropped for 15 meters at a set time everyday. The timeball indicated Greenwich time to shipping in the harbour. The Timeball Station was built in 1876 and is housed in a castle style building. The Timeball Station has been restored by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and the Ministry of Works and Development. Flags were also used as a signal to ships in the harbour and the flags are still displayed today for visitors to see.
