You are now approaching Victoria Square. Originally known as “Market Square,” it was the hub of early Christchurch and housed the Post Office, Police Station, Immigration Barracks as well as a market. In the past, Victoria Street cut through Victoria Square to connect to Colombo Street and create a link to the timber and firewood source for early settlers. Today Victoria Square Park encompasses historical monuments and is a beautiful inner city park area that includes the Haymish Hay Bridge.
