Coming up ahead is Tolaga Bay Wharf, a small town locally known as “Uawa.” For many years the bay could only be reached by boat and Tolaga Wharf is the longest wharf in New Zealand, built to assist boats when coming into town. Sadly the wharf has been neglected over the years but a restoration committee has been appointed and are working to restore the wharf to its former prestige.
