You are now approaching the Napier I-Site Visitor Information Centre, where you can book accommodation, sightseeing tours and activities. Also within walking distance are the Par 2 Mini Golf, the Sound Shell and the Sunken Gardens. The Sound Shell is a stage area which is free of charge to non-profit organizations. The Sunken Gardens are south of the Soundshell and were opened in 1967 after an excavation revealed some interesting findings of cafés and hotels that were lost in the Napier Earthquake of 1931 an earthquake years ago. The Veronica Sunbay near to the Sunken Gardens is a series of concrete columns built to commemorate the tragedy of the earthquake as well as those who helped with rescue and salvage work.
