Coming up is the turnoff to Porangahau. This is the home of a hill that has the longest name not only in New Zealand but the whole world. The famous hill’s name attracts a number of visitors to the area and is pronounced Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. The hill was named after a Maori man who was killed in the area. The hilltop can be reached on foot over privately owned land.
