Coming up is the village of Waikari, well known for its Maori rock art. These ancient drawings can be seen in caves on the Weka Pass Walkway, a steep hike uphill taking around 40 minutes. A shorter half hour walk known as the Village Walkway begins opposite the Weka Pass Railway Station and follows a mix of old railway tracks and footpaths on its circumnavigation of the township.
