You are now approaching Lake Taylor, once a rest stop for travelling miners. These days you can choose to relax beside the lake, or take the four-hour return hike to nearby Loch Katrine, where fishermen’s huts line its shores. If you have come equipped to overnight in a tramping hut, you can hike even further into the Lake Sumner Conservation Park to Lake Sumner itself, and on for a thermal soak at the Hurunui Hot Springs.
