Shortly you will cross the Tongariro River, a crystal-clear trout fishing river whose waters are also shared by whitewater rafters and kayakers, who ply more than 60 grade one-to-three rapids over a 13 kilometre stretch of the river. You can join in the fun and get in amongst the whitewash with Turangi-based whitewater rafting company, Tongariro River Rafting. The company caters for family groups with a Gentle Family Float, a leisurely afternoon cruise down the soft-tumbling water of the lower Tongariro. Whitewater kayaking and scenic floats are also available.
