You are now approaching Cob Cottage coming up on the left/right hand side. The historic cottage is found on the side of the highway and visitors can stop off and take a look at how the early settlers would have lived. Inside are photographs and information boards which reveal plenty about the past. It was built in 1864 by Bentley Coton who was the first smallholder in the Hororata district. Before the Anglican Church was built in the district the cottage was used for religious services. It was then rebuilt in 1978 by the local historic society. Most of the clay from the original was reused along with doors and window frames from the original house.
