Coming up on the left/right are the Mahau and Kenepuru Sounds. Kenepuru Sound is the third largest of the four Sounds which make up the Marlborough Sounds. Mahau, Pelorus and Queen Charlotte are the others. Kenepuru is known for snapper fishing, boating and the production of green mussels from the marine farms along the coastline. The sounds are a series of drowned valleys which formed millions of years ago. You’ll notice that the landscape changes from islands to big bays and inlets and from narrow, steep hillsides to flatter areas.
