You are now approaching the village of Collingwood. This relaxed town used to be a former gold-rush area. Most people enjoy Collingwood for its diversity. Here you can go for walks in the bush or relax on the beach. The town also offers activities like fishing, horse riding, sea kayaking and cycling. From here you can join organized tours and take in the natural splendor. This is New Zealand’s first ‘plastic shopping bag-free’ town, after the locals chose to stop using plastic bags in 2005. There is plenty accommodation to choose from ranging from backpackers to B&B’s making it a perfect rest stop for exploring the Abel Tasman National Park and Farewell Spit.
