You are now approaching the birthplace of Lord Rutherford coming up on the left/right. Ernest Rutherford was a New Zealand physicist who explained radioactivity, the structure of the atom and turned elements from one into another. He studied at various international universities and in that time discovered alpha and beta radiation along with the nucleus and proton. In 1908 he won the Nobel Prize for chemistry and in 1920 he discovered the neutron. Rutherford was knighted in 1914 and served as the president of the Royal Society from 1925 to 1930. With all these achievements it seems right that Lord Rutherfords face appears on the New Zealand hundred dollar notes.
