On your left are signs for Devils Boots and Aorere Goldfields. From the Aorere Goldfield car park you will need a 4X4 to continue onto the mining grounds. From there the track climbs steadily passing a side track that leads to Druggan’s Flat. The track then leads to the Te Anaroa Caves, known for many beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. Take note of the gypsum flowers and the fossilized scallops in the limestone. The cave also contains some graffiti from the past cave explorers. The earliest signature dates back to 1884. The cave has paths and wooden stairs but good walking shoes are required. Te Anaroa Cave is a Maori name meaning Long Cave.
