Coming up ahead is Rawhiti Cave on your left/right. It has the largest entrance of any cave in New Zealand and is reached via a walk through native bush. The cave is known for its flora which also influences the stalactites. These calcium based outgrowths grow towards the sunlight at the entrance to the cave. Some of the most unique features have developed at the entrance and on the cave floor as a result. It’s best to stick to the marked route to avoid any damage and be extra careful in the parts which are steep and slippery.
