You are now approaching the Tarakohe Harbour which is the site of an abandoned concrete factory. The harbour was built by the Golden Bay Cement Company for shipping cement made out of limestone from the nearby quarry. The quarry and cement works have closed but the wharf and harbour are still used for transporting dolomite from other quarries in Golden Bay. Fishing boats drop anchor here to unload their catches for the day and the marina is home to both commercial and luxury boats. Pohara Beach Boating club has a clubhouse and ramp on the edge of the harbour.
