You are now entering the Tasman District. It lies at the top of New Zealand’s south island and has a landscape which changes from mountains and valleys to plains with an entire network of rivers running through it. Visitors can look forward to the birdlife, golden beaches and plenty of fishing in the rivers and bays. Tasman District has 3 national parks which are the Abel Tasman, Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi national parks. Tasman Bay is the largest along the north coast and Mount Owen is the highest point in the district. The Farewell Spit is a fascinating natural feature found at the tip of the northern end of south island. It is the longest sand spit in New Zealand at 40 kilometers.
