Coming up is Kaitaia, the Far Norths largest town and home to the Far North Regional Museum. Housed in the 1940 Centennial Building, the museum showcases Northlands strong Maori and Yugoslavian heritage. Highlights include de Surville anchor which is the oldest authenticated European artefact in New Zealand. There's also an extensive display of kauri gum and information on early settlers in the area, plus historic archives for genealogy searching.
