You are now approaching the turn-off to Hihi Beach and Butler Point, the site of an old whaling station. Various remnants from the past can be viewed at the Butler Point Whaling Museum located on the grounds of the old Butler homestead including old harpoons, blubber vats, a 30ft long whale boat designed for a whaling team of six, plus a collection of whistles, tools, and walking sticks, intricately carved from whale teeth and bone.
