Coming up is New Zealand’s most northerly pub, the Houhora Tavern housed inside an old woolshed dragged here from Ninety Mile Beach in 1902. It’s a great place to rub noses with hardy northland types but like the town itself, it is a pale shadow of what was back in the days when hundreds of gumdiggers thronged through this area.
