Coming up is Marsden Point Oil Refinery. It’s the only oil refinery in the whole of New Zealand and is a big attraction in the Northland area. Construction began on the refinery in the early sixties and was completed two years later. It was expanded ten years later and soon after the renovations were completed the worlds first global oil shock took place. This refinery managed to help New Zealand retain an adequate oil supply after the prices rose. Since 2003 Marsden oil refinery has produced most of New Zealand’s petrol and diesel oil.
