Coming up is the turn off to Mission House also known as Te Waimate Mission Station. This is the second oldest building in New Zealand and is built in a Georgic architectural style. This was also the site of the first inland farm in the country and was established to teach locals basic farm techniques. Many well known people have visited the mission including Charles Darwin. The mission was modeled to look like an English landscape. The oldest oak tree in the country can also be found on the grounds of the mission.
