Coming up is Pompallier, housed inside a charming former French Catholic missionary building, constructed in 1842. It once was home to the missionary’s printing press; today it has been extensively restored and operates as a working museum, using its original press, bookbindery and tanning pits to reproduce copies of books created in here in the 1840s, the first ever to be printed in the Maori language.
