Coming up is Rewa Village. This is a reconstructed village that the early Maori lived in before the European settlers arrived in New Zealand. Another name for this type of village is a “Kainga” and serves to teach vsitors about how the Maori lived before the 19th century. Rewa Village is named after a Maori man who was the second in command of the tribe that lived in this original village. The site was rebuilt in the 1960’s and has all the features of a true Kainga village.
