Coming up is the turn-off to Baylys Beach, a small beachside community of salt-encrusted homes and baches built in a hollow where the pace is slow and beats to a sleepy holiday rhythm even at the Funky Fish Cafe where visitors can enjoy its courtyard-garden setting featuring sculpture and original art works. Baylys Beach is also notable for it provides access to the Ripiro beach highway, New Zealand's longest driveable beach. This stretches some 100-odd kays from Pouto on the Kaipara Harbour to Aranga Beach at Maunganui Bluff, just north of the Kai Iwi Lakes.
