Coming up is Cable Bay, a favourite stop for those travelling with children. This pink-tinged sandy beach offers rock pools, a small lagoon, a general store and pretty clam shells to collect by the truckload. Cable Bay was once the landing point for the first underwater telegraph cable, linking NZ with Australia. A telegraph station operated here from 1902 to 1912.
