You have now reached Haruru Falls a spectacular horse shoe shaped waterfall that’s very popular in summer time. Water sports like kayaking and skiing are widely practiced at Haruru Falls. There was once a big Maori village near the waterfall and a graveyard still exists nearby. This area was also one of the first settlements in New Zealand and the first road in the country was built here. The waterfall is not far from the Treaty House and during the 1800’s scores of Maori people were baptized into the Christian faith in this area.
