Coming up on left/right is the turnoff for the Karikari Peninsula. Karikari is actually a rocky landmass that was once originally an island. The area is home to many places like Matai Bay, which has two beautifully sheltered bays that are popular with both fisherman and holiday makers. The area is also home to Whatuwhiwhi, which is a major settlement on the peninsula and home to the Whatuwhiwhi Holiday Park.
