Coming up on your left/right is the turnoff for Matauri Bay. It is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand, with over a kilometer of white sand and clear blue water. Every year thousands flock here to stay in the local camping sites and enjoy the surf and turf. Matauri Bay has also played a significant role in the history of New Zealand because this was the place where some of the first Polynesian navigators landed. And also made early contact with the Europeans in 1814. Today, Matauri Bay is a very popular spot with surfers, divers and fisherman.
