Coming up is Oturehua, well known for Gilchrist’s General Store, for what lies behind its heavy green doors has definite ‘wow’ factor. In its heyday 12 full time staff were employed here but even today it still boasts its original kauri counters, shelving and roll-a-door containers. Like a well preserved antique it has a nostalgic perfume and a real olde-worlde feel – it’s a great place to stop for an icecream.
