You are now approaching Wedderburn a one-horse town where its 100-year-old railway goods shed was made famous by artist Grahame Sydney’s painting entitled “July on the Maniototo”. However when the railway closed down the shed was moved to the Mt Ida Coal Mine – until what started as pub talk resulted in locals claiming their goods shed and returning it to its original position beside the railroad. To learn more, call into the Wedderburn Tavern to see a display of the move and the town’s history depicted through a series of old photos.
