You are approaching the turnoff to Nugget Point Lighthouse and Kaka Point. The lighthouse was built in 1870 and was fully automated in 1989. Nugget Point is a great location to spot wildlife in particular the New Zealand fur seals, Southern elephant seals and New Zealand Sea Lions. Be sure to bring binoculars! Eight kilometres north of Nugget Point is Kaka Point, named after and known as the home of the New Zealand kaka bird.
