You are approaching the turn off to Slope Point. Slope Point is believed to be the southernmost point on the South Island of New Zealand. The land around Slope Point is used for sheep farming and there is little to no housing nearby. Eroded cliffs drop down to the sea below. An AA signpost determines the distance to the Equator and the South Pole, and a small solar-powered lighthouse stands on surrounding farmland.
