You are now approaching the Rotorua Museum of Art and History, the Government Gardens, The Blue Baths and the Polynesian Spa. All of which are within walking distance of one another. The museum is located at the historic Great South Sea Spa, which is also known as the Bath House. It was opened in 1908 and it was the first major investment in tourism made by the government. The museum opened in 1969 in one wing of the building and the art gallery in another wing 11 years later. The museum and gallery are protected under the Historic Places Trust and it is a very popular tourist attraction in this area.
