Coming up on the left/right is the turnoff for the Cape Egmont Lighthouse. After the turnoff it’s approximately 4.5 kilometers. It was run by a lighthouse keeper until 1986 and now uses an automatic light. The lighthouse was built in the mid 1800s in London and it was shipped to New Zealand in pieces which were put together on Mana Island. The island was no good for sea vessels so the lighthouse was taken apart and put back together at Cape Egmont. Visitors enjoy climbing the stairs to the base tower. There are information displays and the view from the top is great.
